Gate Handles and Pulls

Commonly construct of wood, lych gates are roofed and gated entry consisting of four or six upright wooden posts forming a rectangle. Lych gates are the part of a church where, during the Middle Ages, the deceased were placed on a bier and the priest conducted the first part of the funeral service beneath its shelter. Lych gates also provided shelter for pallbearers waiting for the bier to be brought from the church. The most common form of lych gate is a simple shed composed of a roof with two gabled ends, covered with tiles or thatch.
