Bathroom Accessories

The wash closet became a standard at the end of the 19th century as indoor plumbing became available in the cities and Victorian urbanites recognized the merits of hygiene. Strictly functional in design; smooth, hard, and white surfaces were chosen because they were considered antiseptic. Early bathrooms were fitted with white glazed or enameled fixtures, bathroom vanities were topped with white marble, bathroom cabinetry, walls and trim were painted with gloss white paint and white glazed porcelain tiles were used on floors, shower basins and walls.
