Desk Fans

In 1882, American engineer Schulyer Wheeler applied the newfound knowledge of electricity to fan technology and invented the electric desk fan. Wheeler’s apparatus had two exposed blades and was powered by an electric motor. The fan was marketed by the Crocker & Curtis Electric Motor Co. Wheeler was awarded the John Scott Medal of The Franklin Institute in 1904 and went on to become the president of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers from 1905 to 1906.
