Capable of reproducing sound that has been recorded as a spiral, undulating groove cut into a disk known as a record , the turntable or record player is the descendant of the phonograph . While spinning on the motorized turntable, a tone arm fitted with a pickup fitted with a stylus and transducer is placed on the record . Variations in the records groove cause the stylus to vibrate resulting in electrical signals that are projected by an amplifier and delivered to passed to a loudspeaker that creates sound.
