With age, cedar lined chests and drawers lose the aromatic properties that serve as a natural pest deterrent. Over time the pores in cedar can become clogged with particulate matter or pinched closed from use, preventing the pungent oils from escaping. Lightly sand the surface of the cedar with fine grit sandpaper to open pores, expose oil pockets, and restore the aroma.
