Decorative
In Finland, the weaving of a Rya was customarily commissioned to celebrate a wedding day. The Rya tapestry, which has similarities to a knotted Persian carpet is comprised of hand woven rows of weft alternating with rows of knotted yarn. The hand weaving of Ryas continues to be practiced in Finland in both traditional designs as well as modern variations of the customary designs.
