Gas and Combination
Until the early twentieth century, it was not inevitable that electricity would displace the natural gas light as the dominant lighting medium for home use. Many homes in which electricity was installed had dual systems, using gas light for daily light and the more expensive option, electricity, only when entertaining guests.
