Porch Sconces
The arc lamp consists of two carbon rods connected to a current limited source. The rods are brought together then drawn apart, as the carbons separate a continuous hot ionized path is created between the rods known as the arc. This arc burns at thousands of degrees heating the ends of the carbons to incandescence. The carbons need to be frequently adjusted as they burn down to maintain the proper spacing.
