Embroidery and Stitching
Samplers originated as a means of practicing needlework, but eventually became decorative and coveted. Most common are the alphabet samplers, however schoolgirls produced maps, presentation samplers were offered to parents by children, pictorial samplers displayed images with little lettering, and during the 19th century genealogical samplers were popular.
