Stained Glass
The stained glass window is inexorably intertwined with our image of church. Elaborately adorned in colorful biblical scenes, the use of stained glass began in Ninth Century Rome when thin, blown glass began to replace molded glass. This technique gave way to the art of stained glass during the reign of Charlemagne. Stained glass, equated with divine light from heaven, was associated exclusively with churches through the Thirteenth Century.
