Collectibles

It is impossible to collect every sports trading card ever produced; therefore collectors usually specialize. Individual collectors define and tailor their collections to match personal tastes. Many collectors select complete sets from particular years, while others wish to acquire certain players of notoriety. Some collectors are only interested in Rookie cards, while others collect cards is by team. Collecting individual players and collecting complete sets of trading cards are both popular vehicles for investment and speculation.

Coins & Banknotes
Collecting coins and tokens of Ireland offers a glimpse of people subjugated by foreign invaders. The lack of a national coinage and the English Crowns control hobbled the Irish economy so as not to affect English commerce negatively. Irish tokens were used successfully in local commerce, however the system prevented travel within Ireland as token acceptance and value decreased as distance from the point of issue increased. Ireland has been impoverished for much of its history and its coinage relatively limited, as a result of this rarity Irish coin collecting is difficult.
Molds & Castings
Plaster and gypsum cements are incredibly versatile, and the various types of plaster offer a multitude of uses. The casting mold can be made of a variety of materials, however the casting mold is grouped into two general categories, Plastic Molds, and Flexible Molds. Plastic molds are used extensively for low-cost, two-dimensional creations. Flexible molding materials fall into three major groups. Latex rubber, Cold molding compounds and hot melts.
Postcards & Ephemera
In 1898, American publishers were permitted to print and sell cards bearing the inscription Private Mailing Card, Authorized by Act of Congress on May 19, 1898, which gave rise to the modern post card. The cards were posted at the same one-cent rate as a government postal. Writing was reserved for the front of these vintage post cards, as with the government and earlier vintage post card. In 1901 use of the authorization inscription was discontinued and the words Post Card were permitted on the undivided back, but writing was still limited to the front. Use of a divided back enabled the front to be reserved entirely for design; this began in England in 1902, and by 1907 the United States adopted the improvement.
Seasonal & Advertising
Martin Luther Beistle founded the Beistle Company in 1900 in the basement of his Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home. The Beistle Company grew to become one of the largest American novelty producers and subsequently became a premier source for antique advertising collectibles. In 1910 Beistle brought the technology to produce honeycombed tissue to the United States, then built and patented new machines for this process. The product was embraced and Beistle rapidly expanded their production lines of paper decorations and the business thrived, and continues to be a strong, family orientated enterprise.
Trading Cards
The economic laws of supply and demand are applicable to trading card collecting. Factors that determine value of a sports trading card are age, number printed, player(s) portrayed, popularity, and condition. The collectible trading card market varies regionally usually attaching a higher value to local players known as a regional premium. Regional discounts occur when a player’s popularity has caused local collectors and dealers to have accumulated abundant supply of a certain sports trading card driving prices down.
