Tin Ceilings & Walls

Virtually unknown in most of the world, tin ceilings are a North American phenomenon. Constituting an arrangement of painted and embossed tin panels, stamped with intricate designs patterned after decorative plasterwork popular among European aristocracy. The pressed tin panels were developed as an affordable alternative to the aforementioned plasterwork, which became widely available beginning in the mid 19th century when techniques were developed to mass-produce sheets of rolled tinplate.
