Doorknobs - Entrance

The earliest record of the door is represented in ancient paintings Egyptian tombs, depicting single and double doors. Depictions of early Egyptian doors suggest the portholes were fabricated of a single slab of wood; this construction was suitable in Egypt’s dry climate but not appropriate in other regions where doors were framed with stiles and rails to prevent warping. Ancient doors were hung by pivots at the top and bottom of the hanging stile, which swung in sockets drilled in the lintel and sill.
