Decorative Grilles

The architectural term grille describes a system of decorative grating fabricated from metal, wood or other material forming a porous enclosure installed to aesthetically seal an aperture. Commonly functioning to protect window and door openings, grilles have been widely employed as ornamental enclosures often in churches, for shrines and tombs since the early medieval period.
