Religious Art

Religious art work is customarily defined as art that depicts biblical themes. Although religious art has been abundantly created in all eras, traditional religious art work saw its highest expression in the Renaissance period when the church employed prominent artists who experimented with themes from biblical settings as well as classical mythology. Traditionally, religious art was art that was officially sanctioned by the church. Today, the term religious art may refer to art exhibiting passion, insight and powerful spiritual overtones inspiring contemplation of the world and existence.
