Soaps
Soap is not found in nature; but can be easily created through the relatively simple processes of sopification. Saponification occurs when a fatty acid and alkali are introduced. Fats or oils that are rich in fatty acids are combined with a strong alkali, which separates the fats or oils into fatty acids and glycerin. Once separated, the sodium or potassium content in the alkali attaches the fatty acids resulting in a potassium or sodium salt or soap.
