Chandeliers
The word chandelier originally described a branched fixture that held candles; the candles were lighted with a taper attached to the end of a long pole. Early American chandeliers were usually composed of local tin ware or wood, although factory-made brass chandeliers were available to the wealthy. Over the years, antique chandeliers have often been altered to accommodate changing technology and fashion; popular styles have been extensively copied often making dating chandeliers challenging.
