Collection of three 100-year-old black and white photograph postcards displaying landmark architecture of the Germantown and Mt. Airy Sections of Philadelphia. Germantown, then a thriving section of Philadelphia was commonly referred to as The City Within A City, , and is the location of arguably the most impressive architecture in the United States. Included with the set are The Lutheran Theological Seminary, The Gowen House, and a view of West Walnut Lane. The cards are marked The World Postcard Co., 1008 Walnut Street, Philadelphia. The cards can be dated between 1901 when the words Post Card were permitted on the undivided back, and 1907 when Use of a divided back was permitted. The three are from a single series, and entirely free of postage, correspondence or markings of any kind.
