Uncommon in most collections, the primitive bark masks of the tribal groups living in the Dolpo and Jumla areas of western Nepal are distinctive. Simple, yet eloquent, these roughly worked slabs of bark become richly patinated with oily lamp soot and wood smoke from cook fires. This mask dates to the 1950's. Approximately 11 1/2" tall.
