An exceptional little carved house panel from the Ifugao people of n. Luzon, Philippines. Hewn and carved boards like this one are used in a framework that extends on the sides of the cook fires, allowing support sticks to be inserted at different levels over the heat. The carved figure in high relief strongly resembles the bulul, or rice guardian gods, that the Ifugao have been known for for well over a century.
